Leading Organizational Change Through AI Adoption
As artificial intelligence began transforming the workplace, I helped establish and support a Marketing AI Committee focused on identifying practical AI applications, building organizational awareness, and helping employees prepare for future adoption.
The Challenge
Artificial intelligence was rapidly becoming part of everyday business operations across many organizations.
While interest in AI was growing internally, the organization faced several challenges including uncertainty around governance, privacy, procurement timelines, and practical implementation. Employees were interested in learning how AI could support their work but lacked clear guidance and real-world examples.
To address this need, a dedicated Marketing AI Committee was established to explore AI applications relevant to marketing, communications, analytics, and content development.
My Approach
As the representative for the Marketing Research and Analytics team, I helped shape the committee's direction by contributing to its charter and identifying practical AI use cases that could create value across the marketing department.
I researched emerging AI tools, evaluated their capabilities, developed prompts, documented practical use cases, and tested Microsoft Copilot extensively across reporting, analytics, Excel automation, content development, and meeting management.
Beyond research, I focused on knowledge sharing.
I presented findings during Marketing Town Halls attended by more than sixty employees and managers, regularly communicated committee updates to my own team, and acted as a resource for colleagues interested in exploring AI within their own work.
To demonstrate practical value, I worked directly with colleagues by testing AI against real business tasks. One example involved evaluating Copilot's ability to perform sentiment analysis using existing media monitoring data, helping build confidence in how AI could complement traditional analysis.
I also introduced AI-generated meeting summaries using Microsoft Teams, making it easier for colleagues to stay informed even when they were unable to attend meetings.
Key Contributions
Helped develop the Marketing AI Committee charter
Researched and evaluated AI tools
Tested Microsoft Copilot across multiple business scenarios
Presented AI use cases during Marketing Town Halls
Shared practical guidance and supported colleagues
Promoted AI adoption through demonstrations and knowledge sharing
Results
Although organization-wide implementation depended on procurement timelines and governance processes, the initiative significantly increased awareness of AI opportunities across the marketing department.
Managers and colleagues expressed strong interest in applying AI to improve content creation, reporting, meeting management, and analytics once the technology became available.
The committee also helped establish a culture of experimentation and continuous learning around emerging technologies.
Lessons Learned
Successful change management begins long before new technology is implemented.
Helping people understand change, addressing concerns, and demonstrating practical value are often more important than the technology itself.
This experience strengthened my ability to influence others, communicate emerging ideas, and support organizational change without formal authority.
