Developing a Hybrid Work Strategy Through Organizational Consulting
As part of an MBA consulting engagement, I worked with a financial services organization to evaluate challenges associated with managing hybrid teams. By conducting stakeholder interviews, analyzing organizational dynamics, and evaluating multiple strategic options, our team developed practical recommendations that were ultimately accepted for implementation by the organization.
The Challenge
Like many organizations, the client was adapting to a post-pandemic hybrid work environment.
Managers were facing increasing challenges balancing operational requirements with employee flexibility. Common issues included inconsistent application of hybrid work policies, frequent requests for exceptions, concerns about accountability, employee engagement, and maintaining team performance.
The organization wanted an objective assessment of the situation along with practical recommendations that could improve consistency while maintaining a positive workplace culture.
My Approach
I began by interviewing one of the organization's Directors to better understand the challenges from a leadership perspective. Rather than assuming the issue was simply employees resisting hybrid work, I focused on understanding the broader organizational context and identifying the underlying causes contributing to the situation.
Based on the interview findings, I analyzed recurring themes and developed a SWOT analysis highlighting the team's internal strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and external threats.
Working collaboratively with my consulting team, we generated multiple possible solutions before evaluating each option using a structured decision matrix. Rather than selecting the most attractive idea, we assessed each recommendation based on effectiveness, feasibility, sustainability, and alignment with the organization's needs.
One of my primary responsibilities was developing the SWOT analysis and writing the implementation plan included in the final consulting report, ensuring that our recommendations could realistically be adopted by the organization.

Results

Following the final presentation, the client shared the report with senior leadership, who expressed strong support for the recommendations and decided to implement the proposed approach within the organization.
Lessons Learned
One of the biggest lessons from this project was the importance of resisting the temptation to jump directly to solutions.
At first, the challenge appeared to be about enforcing hybrid work policies more strictly. However, after conducting interviews and analyzing the findings, it became clear that the real issue involved leadership consistency, communication, and shared accountability.
This experience reinforced the value of asking better questions before recommending solutions.
